He is the first from North India to have DM (Medical Oncology) from TN Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai. He later joined Department of Medical Oncology, SKIMS, Srinagar and superannuated as Professor & Head. He did Fellowship in Pediatric Haem Onc from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis (TN, USA) and subsequently UICC-Fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplantation from Imperial College of Medicine (Hammersmith Hospital) London, UK. He established Pediatric Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit in Medical Oncology, SKIMS. He pioneered to start DM (Medical Oncology, degree course) duly approved and certified by MCI, the fulsome distinction winning accolades widely in being among few in India. Ever since several trained and qualified Medical Oncologists in J&K and rest of the country. He is DM exit Examiner in all the premiere Institutions in India. He has authored text (Oncologie Memoirs) and other allied books. He has more than 250 publications in National and International Journals and is in the EdBoards and referee of several journals. He is Life Member of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), Indian Cancer Society (ICS) and Indian Society of Medical & Pediatric Oncology (ISMPO). His wife Dr Safia Aejaz (Gynae), two sons (Dr. Asim (Ph.D.-Civil Engineering teaches Civil Engineering in Kashmir University), Arsalan (Medical Student) are at his back. He is Founder Trustee of Shama Foundation (NGO) and life member of Kashmir Golf Club (KGC).
