Book Description

About the Book
The Anti-romantics, a collection of Odia short stories in English translation, is unique in theme, taste, style, and technique. It is entirely different and free from contemporary experiments and isms. This collection showcases the creative artist's extraordinary understanding of the world and human life, particularly when giving the status of heroes and heroines to those who were previously marginalized, unrecognized, unwanted, neglected, and deemed unfit in the world of literature. These are the anti-romantics the readers meet in these stories, who tell their stories in their own ways.

About the Author
Basant Kumar Satpathy (1913-1994), one of the last Odia men of letters and a Sahitya Akademi award-winner, was a master storyteller, prolific essayist and critic, editor, life-writer, belletrist, playwright, translator, and writer of Children's Literature. He was a versatile literary genius whose contribution has enriched and developed the branch of Odia Literature, particularly in the short story genre. His stories, faithful to Fakir Mohan's style of tale-telling with no jerks or twists, are unique in taste and style. They synchronize the three significant elements: humor, satire, and pathos, into a rare symphony. With self-directed irony, he is adept at showing readers the hypocrisy within themselves while providing unanticipated aesthetic pleasure.
